Schlafgut Fitted Sheets
As the inventors of the fitted sheet, we have perfected our products since 1952, creating the ideal foundation for a good night's sleep.
High-quality fitted sheets are characterized by their ability to adapt to the various sleeping habits of the person. They are easy to put on and do not slip, even if you turn around in your sleep. Twisted yarns, in particular, have proven to be stable and high-quality. But whether firm fabrics or flexible jersey – when buying a fitted sheet, it is increasingly important to consider not only the quality features but also the ecological standard.
Choosing a particular material also depends on the sleeper's individual preferences and not just the quality of the fitted sheet. For this reason, Schlafgut fitted sheets come in a wide range of fabric types and up to thirty different colors in addition to high-quality fabric, a pleasant sleeping experience, and many different sizes. This means everyone can choose the perfect color coordination for their fitted sheets and find these colors in the Schlafgut bedding range.
To ensure the fitted sheet fits the mattress perfectly, it is especially important to pay attention to the correct size when purchasing. For this reason, Schlafgut fitted sheets are categorized by an easy size system into S, M, L, and XL. An elastic band that encompasses the entire sheet or is only at the edges ensures the fitted sheet lies taut on the mattress. Thanks to the fabric quality and elastic band, Schlafgut fitted sheets are also wrinkle-free after washing. Additionally, the elastic band not only keeps the fitted sheet in place but also prevents wrinkles from forming.
Cotton sheets are the classic choice for the bedroom. Especially organic cotton sheets impress with their high quality standards. Cotton or jersey bedding can be used all year round. If you prefer it particularly cool, you should opt for satin. This material has a pleasant fresh effect and is therefore ideal for the summer months. In the transitional period and winter, warmer fabrics are preferred. Favorites include pure cotton jersey. This firm material has a high fiber density and is also very skin-friendly. Additionally, cotton jersey compensates for temperature fluctuations well, making it suitable for summer. When it gets cool at night, warmer fabrics are a closer choice. Cotton sheets in beaver quality or terry cloth are recommended. Thicker jersey is also an option. A material with elastane provides more elasticity. These stretchable jersey fitted sheets with elastane are therefore easier to put on and are particularly suitable for high mattresses or box spring beds.
Schlafgut offers fitted sheets in various sizes suitable for single beds, queen-size or king-size double beds, or twin beds. Special sizes and oversized fitted sheets are also available, so you can quickly find the right sheet without long searching. Overstretching smaller sheets onto larger mattresses is not advisable as it can damage the material over time. Larger sheets on smaller mattresses also cause problems, as they quickly create wrinkles. A look at the Schlafgut fitted sheet size chart helps find the right size:
- S: 90/190 cm to 100/200 cm for single beds or single mattresses,
- M: 120/200 cm to 130/200 cm for children and youth beds,
- L: 140/200 cm to 160/200 cm,
- XL: 180/200 cm to 200/200 cm for a standard double bed.
Besides the size of the sleeping surface, the height of the mattress plays a crucial role in choosing the right sheet. Standard mattresses are often between 18 and 24 cm high, but can now also be up to 30 cm high. A snugly fitted sheet is sufficient for a thin mattress but reaches its limits with high mattresses. For a high mattress with a height of 30 to 40 cm, a special sheet for box spring beds should be considered. If only a topper with a maximum height of 10 cm is to be covered, a correspondingly smaller sheet with a lower height is sufficient. However, it should be noted that topper pads are generally not as firm as a classic mattress and can bulge at the sides with too small sheets. An XXL sheet for the box spring bed, that is, for the box spring bed including topper, offers more stability but requires more effort when covering.
In most households, plain-colored cotton sheets are used. – Classic and timeless! For this reason, the Schlafgut range offers the most diverse colors of fitted sheets with reactive dyeing, so the sheet remains colorfast even after many washes. Therefore, Schlafgut products find a long-term place in any bedroom.
For an even more classic style, satin sheets are particularly suitable, which exude a certain elegance with their slight shimmer. In combination with the Mako satin bedding from Schlafgut, an elegant overall impression is created in the bedroom.
Subtle shades of gray, green, and blue in cotton almost always fit here. For a friendly and cozy interior, pastel tones harmonize, but also vibrant colors. In cotton, jersey, or microfiber, the various shades come into their own, whether rustic or luxurious. Conversely, the Scandinavian style is characterized by a bright color scheme and predominantly presents natural fabrics: Here, white, light gray, and beige dominate. For the boho style, fitted sheets in warm tones like red and orange or earthy tones like sunflower yellow and olive are suitable. For a room with modern furniture, dark tones like graphite and navy blue or striking signal colors like red and yellow are ideal.
A hygienic sleeping environment is important for health and a relaxing sleep. However, dust and skin flakes attract mites, bacteria, and other pests. Therefore, the sheet made of jersey, microfiber, or Mako satin should be changed at least every three weeks. Additionally, the body releases over a liter of moisture every night, which lands in the bedding and sheet. Small residues of body and face creams can also soil the sheets. After two to three weeks, a change is necessary. If the body produces intense sweat, the recommended interval shortens to about a week. Allergy sufferers should also change their bedding more frequently. Regardless of changing the bedding, you should not place a bedspread immediately after getting up, so that the moisture in the bed does not accumulate too much. This allows the sheet to air out a bit first.
All important instructions for the correct washing and care of the sheets can be found on the care label inside the sheet. Adhering to these instructions ensures that the bedding made of cotton, microfiber, or another material retains its shape and original color in the long term. Depending on the manufacturer's instructions, the appropriate wash cycle for jersey or other fabrics and the maximum temperature of the washing machine should be set to 30, 40, or 60 degrees. In general, a detergent or a special color detergent for intense shades is sufficient. However, it is important that the sheets are washed only with similar colors to prevent discoloration or gray haze. With jersey, Mako satin, and other fabrics, the fiber structure is relatively dense, but not every material is dryer safe. Other fabric qualities show wear quickly, so they should not be placed in the dryer. Drying on a line is particularly environmentally friendly and gives the sheet a fresh scent. Ironing is generally not necessary. After washing and drying, the fitted sheet is folded. But how do you carefully fold fitted sheets? How does it work with flexible jersey and the elastic band at the corners? More on this in our guide on "How to Fold Fitted Sheets Properly".
